Head-on collision leaves 1 dead, injures others
Drivers in South Carolina face the same challenges as those navigating roadways in other states. One must not only drive cautiously but must also try to avoid negligent drivers. Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, driving while tired and distracted driving can all lead to serious car accidents. Sadly, a recent accident in Chesterfield County left one dead and police are still not sure exactly what happened.
A 2-car collision ends in tragedy
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the two-car accident happened on a Saturday night near Cheraw. An SUV was traveling north on Highway 52 when it was struck by a pickup truck. The collision caused both vehicles to leave the roadway in opposite directions. The driver of the SUV was killed in the accident and one passenger was injured. The driver of the pickup and one passenger were also injured.
Police are still investigating the crash to try to determine who, if anyone, was at fault. They believe the truck crossed the center line before striking the SUV, which could possibly lead to charges against the driver if they determine that negligence was a factor. No matter the cause, the deceased victim’s family is now mourning the loss of a loved one.
Assistance for accident victims
Being the victim of a motor vehicle accident often goes beyond the physical injuries sustained. Victims may not be able to return to work for a significant period and they may have medical costs and other accident-related expenses. By pursuing legal action against the party at fault in the accident, South Carolina accident victims or their surviving family members can attempt to put their lives back together financially with the compensation that comes with a successful civil lawsuit.
